U.S. State Department Points Out Export Potential of Turkmen Gas
The U.S. State Department official said US would also like to see Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan take advantage of international energy export routes.

The U.S. would like to see Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan take advantage of international energy export routes, Nathan Reich, Energy Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Energy Resources, told Azerbaijan-based Trend News Agency on Friday.

"Turkmenistan has plentiful offshore condensate and natural gas reserves. Companies would like to develop and export them. Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and perhaps Europe could consume the natural gas and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline could be used to export the condensate to global markets,” said Nathan Reich.

The State Department official also said American companies could bring the capital and expertise in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector.

"We have successfully worked together on a range of important political, economic, security, social, and humanitarian issues for nearly thirty years,” Reich added. “With the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and the nearly completed Southern Gas Corridor, Azerbaijan and its neighbors have greater access to Europe and the world’s energy markets".

The energy diplomacy officer pointed out that top-tier international oil and gas companies continue to explore and develop new fields in Azerbaijan’s portion of the Caspian Sea because the country continues to offer an attractive investment environment.

Turkmenistan has declared its readiness to supply Europe with an annual volume of up to 30 billion cubic meters of gas. Ashgabat is currently studying the possibility of a 300-kilometer gas pipeline to be laid along the Caspian seabed to the shores of Azerbaijan.
