Most Powerful Next-Generation BMW 7 Series to Be Electric

BMW has officially confirmed that the next-generation version of its flagship 7 Series will be available with an all-electric variant.

Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, revealed the latest 7 Series during the brand’s annual press conference in Munich on Wednesday.

Zipse said the “next-generation 7 Series will be available with four drive train variants: petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully-electric. All drive trains will be based on a single architecture,” adding that the “most powerful 7 Series will be fully electric.”

According to the BMW Chairman, the brand is planning to continue offering multiple variations of the sedan to provide their existing customers with the “power of choice.”

The battery-powered version of BMW’s flagship car will be equipped with a fifth-generation electric drivetrain but Zipse didn’t disclose any details in terms of the electric vehicle’s aesthetic.

According to BMW Group, which also includes MINI and Rolls-Royce, consumer demand for electric vehicles is predicted to double by 2021. The company planning to have 25 electrified models in its portfolio by 2023. In order to stay ahead of the trend, the brand is aiming for at least a half of its new vehicle fleet to be fully electric by 2030.

In the meantime, the first fully electric BMW vehicle, the iX3 electric SUV, is going into production in China and will be available globally later this year.
