President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani discussed issues on regional and global agenda in a telephone conversation on Wednesday.
During the phone call, Turkmen President supported the proposal of the Afghan Leader to hold a trilateral online meeting between the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan, the agenda of which will include the issues of increasing the efficiency of the Lapis Lazuli transport corridor.
Discussing the issues on the international agenda, the Presidents underlined the necessity to develop a coordinated approach to address modern challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, which has a negative impact on international economic relations, many states and the life of peoples.
Turkmenistan, successfully implementing the measures to combat the dangerous virus, fully supports the efforts of the international community and considers it necessary to intensify international cooperation aimed at developing coordinated actions, President Berdimuhamedov said.
Turkmen Leader noted the necessity for coordinated sanitary-quarantine measures on the border between the two states and expressed the willingness of Turkmenistan, as a humanitarian aid to the neighbouring state, to construct special terminal facilities in the border railway stations, checkpoints and in some other places on the territory of Afghanistan for the disinfection of railway transport and cargo, similar to those built in Turkmenistan, and also to equip these facilities.
The sides noted that joint measures will allow to achieve high level of sanitary and epidemiological safety and create conditions for the disinfection of vehicles and goods crossing the border.
