President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a telephone conversation with the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Friday, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) reports.

According to the report, the Turkmen leader sincerely congratulated his Uzbek counterpart on his birthday and reaching the age of 63 - the age of the Prophet Muhammad, and wished Shavkat Mirziyoyev good health, happiness, new successes in all his undertakings and activities for the benefit of the people of Uzbekistan.

Highly assessing the achieved level of interstate relations, the parties emphasized their mutual commitment to strategic cooperation, the development of friendly and good-neighborly relations.

During the telephone conversation, the Presidents also exchanged views on a number of international issues, noting with satisfaction the convergence of the approaches and positions of the parties on key issues on the agenda, primarily related to ensuring global peace, security and prosperity.

Referring to the current global issue – a novel coronavirus pandemic, which has a negative impact on international economic ties, the Heads of the States noted the development of a coordinated approach in combating the spread of this dangerous disease, as well as regular sanitary and quarantine measures.

The sides particularly focused on the issues related to the Aral Sea crisis, the drying up of which had a negative impact on the climate, ecology, health of people living in the Aral Sea region and far beyond its borders.

The Presidents expressed confidence that the existing high level of trust and mutual understanding will continue to serve as a solid basis for the development of a constructive dialogue.
