Turkmenistan Discusses Implementation of Global Compact For Migration With IOM
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) is an intergovernmentally negotiated agreement and prepared under the auspices of the United Nations.

Turkmenistan’s Interdepartmental Working Group on the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) on Tuesday held a video conference meeting with representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan said in a press release.

IOM Regional Coordinator Zeynal Hajiyev, IOM representative in Turkmenistan, representatives of the State Migration Service, ministries, departments, public organizations of Turkmenistan, who are members of the Interdepartmental Working Group, took part in the session.

The meeting participants noted the positive experience of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IOM and exchanged views on the role of the GCM and mechanisms for its implementation at the national level.

The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) is an intergovernmentally negotiated agreement, prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, that describes itself as covering all dimensions of international migration in a holistic and comprehensive manner. The GCM was signed in December 2018.

Representatives of State Migration Service of Turkmenistan on July 30 had also participated in IOM meeting on implementation of a preliminary information system for passengers in Central Asia.
