Caspian Container Lines company (St. Petersburg) is launching a pilot container shipping line from the port of Astrakhan to the ports of Iran, Expert-Yug news outlet reported last week with reference to the statement of Ministry of Industry and Natural Resources of the Astrakhan Region.

On December 2, the first large batch of containers (60 TEU) with food, cardboard and grain was loaded onto the ship, bound for Iran.

The container line in the Caspian Sea with the basic route Astrakhan port - northern ports of Iran and vice versa is being created as part of the development of the North - South international transport corridor. The new service will operate in the special port economic zone.
