The 8th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), gathering over 1000 delegates representing governments, civil society, businesses, and international organizations, kicked off online on Tuesday to discuss sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Turkmen side was represented at the meeting by the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy and heads of a number of departments of the Ministry.
The annual intergovernmental forum is a platform to support the countries of the Asia-Pacific region in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to identify regional trends, consolidate and exchange experiences.
During the online event, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Nuryagdiyev acquainted the forum participants with the country's activities. Particular emphasis was placed on the country’s activities in the field of nationalization of the SDGs, according to the report. In particular, as a result of the measures, Turkmenistan approved a list consisting of 17 goals, 136 tasks and 180 indicators.
In the context of the discussion of the global crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the officials noted that the Turkmen Government had taken a set of successful measures to mitigate its economic and social consequences.
The 8th APFSD, hosted by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), will run until March 26.
