The Ministry of Energy and Industry of Kyrgyz Republic intends to hold negotiations with Turkmenistan on the import of natural gas, the Kyrgyzstan-based 24.kg news agency cites the Head of the Ministry Kubanychbek Turdubayev as saying during a meeting of the Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex and Subsoil Use of Jogorku Kenesh, the Kyrgyz parliament, on Tuesday.
The Minister of Kyrgyzstan said the topic of gas supplies from Uzbekistan was raised at a meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He noted that gasification is necessary to reduce electricity consumption.
“In order to reduce the price of gas for subscribers, we intend to supply it at a lower price. We are negotiating with Uzbekistan and plan to discuss the topic with Turkmenistan. We have technical capabilities for this,” Turdubayev said during the Committee meeting.
In an online meeting on March 18, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbayev discussed cooperation of the countries in the field of electric energy and natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan.
