The Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi and the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting in Nur-Sultan emphasized the importance of the full use of potential of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, Kazinform news agency reports citing the Kazakh FM as saying during a press briefing following the talks on Wednesday.
Having discussed the horizons of trade and economic relations between the two states, the heads of the foreign ministries noted the need to increase the pace of interaction in transport, transit, agriculture and other spheres, according to the Kazakh FM.
“The importance of the full use of potential of the Uzen (Kazakhstan) - Bereket (Turkmenistan) - Incheburun (Iran) railway, which allows to quickly reach the Persian Gulf and the markets of Europe, Russia and China, was also noted,” Tleuberdi said during the briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
He informed that in 2020 the Kazakhstan-Iran trade turnover decreased by 37.2% compared to 2019, amounting to $237 million.
In this regard, the sides discussed ways to provide comprehensive support in increasing the volume of bilateral trade.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday started his official visit to four Central Asian countries – Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
