President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a Cabinet of Ministers meeting on Friday instructed the Vice-Premier Mammetmyrat Geldiniyazov to keep under constant control the comprehensive preventive measures, including construction of scientific centers and hospitals, against the harmful impacts of the shrinking Aral Sea.
The Head of State said due to the shallowing of the Aral Sea, the air environment formed in the ecological disaster zone causes considerable harm, negatively affecting the climate and health of people living in the Aral Sea region and beyond, the country’s official media reports.
The Turkmen President also instructed to report on the results of the relevant preventive measures at government meetings on a monthly basis.
In December 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting with Ms. Liliya Burunchuk, Regional Director for Central Asia of the World Bank. During the meeting, an Agreement on Additional Financing of the Project for the Modernization of Hydrometeorological Services in Central Asia was signed between the World Bank and the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
