Heads of railway departments and diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Iran held online talks on Tuesday on the creation of a new railway corridor. The meeting was initiated by the Kyrgyz Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

The new project is aimed at organizing transportation of containers to Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan via the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas and vice versa, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

According to preliminary calculations of experts, container transportation of goods from China, India and the Southeast Asian countries via the Bandar Abbas port will reduce the delivery their time from 45 to 21 days.

To test the effectiveness of the new corridor, the Kyrgyz Union proposed interested representatives of the Kyrgyz business to transport their goods imported from China, India and the Southeast Asia countries to Kyrgyzstan along the new Bandar Abbas-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan route.

In early May of this year, the railway administrations of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran held a video conference meeting. The agenda of the talks included issues of coordinating the transportation of a pilot train along the Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran - Oman corridor (Ashgabat Agreement).
