Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev held an online meeting with the Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia Zeynal Hajiyev on Wednesday. The agenda of the meeting included discussions on issues regarding the General Agreement on Financing and Co-financing of Projects, which is novel practice in Turkmen side’s interaction with IOM.
Zeynal Hajiyev is also IOM Chief of Mission in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The meeting focused on issues of strengthening the legal framework for cooperation. Turkmenistan takes an active part in various regional IOM projects, implementing their national segment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said in its press release.
The officials also considered the implementation of a new national project "Launching a national referral mechanism for victims of human trafficking in Turkmenistan". In this context, Turkmenistan's actions at the national level to combat human trafficking, including the provision of appropriate legal and social assistance to victims, were outlined.
Established in 1951, the IOM consists of 173 member states and has offices in over 100 countries.
