Turkmen Silkworm Farmers Produce Over 2.1 Thousand Tons of Cocoons
Raw silk is the main resource of the country's enterprises producing silk products.

Turkmen silkworm farmers successfully fulfilled their contractual obligations, handing over 2,100 tons of cocoons to state warehouses this year, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Esenmyrat Orazgeldiyev, overseeeing the country’s agro-industrial complex, briefed President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a government meeting on Wednesday.

Addressing the hyakims (governors) of the velayats, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to provide all conditions for storing harvested silkworm cocoons and producing high-quality silk products at relevant processing enterprises, the country’s official media reports.

In his congratulatory message to the Turkmenistan’s silkworm breeders, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that “in the future, we plan to increase the volume of investments in silkworm breeding, expand the production base of the industry. This will create additional jobs, increase the production of valuable raw materials.”

Raw silk is the main resource of the country's enterprises producing silk products. Ashgabat Silk-reeling Factory and Turkmenabat Silk Production Association are the main enterprises for the processing of silk in Turkmenistan. Among them, the Turkmenabat Silk Production Association is considered the largest, as a result of which the Lebap velayat took responsibility for producing about half of the total production of silk raw materials in the country.
