Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Homeland Security Advisor for the U.S. President Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall and the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad in a meeting in Uzbekistan’s capital of Tashkent on Thursday exchanged views on the intensification of the activities of Turkmenistan-U.S.-Afghanistan format, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.
During the meeting, the officials exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan, a direct neighbor of Turkmenistan.
The position of the Turkmen side on promoting the peace process in Afghanistan through political and diplomatic efforts was stated during the meeting. The Turkmen side also informed about the progress in the implementation of joint projects with the Afghan side, in particular, of a socio-economic and humanitarian projects.
The parties also discussed key aspects of the Turkmen-American cooperation, in particular, on security issues. The meeting participants emphasized the importance of bilateral and multilateral interaction mechanisms aimed at countering modern threats and challenges in the region and beyond, according to the report.
This meeting took place within the framework of the International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities”.
