Production of processed fish products and canned fish in Turkmenistan in January-June period of this year increased by 44.4% compared to the same period last year, the Ashgabat-based Orient news outlet reported on Wednesday with reference to the data of the State Statistics Committee of the country.
According to the data, in the first half of this year in the country, the catch of fish also increased by 24% compared to the same period in 2020. In addition, the private sector has established artificial fish farming on an industrial scale.
In October 2018, the privatization of the fishing industry was announced in Turkmenistan, according to the report.
The state privatized the major fish farming and processing enterprises, selling them to the member businesses of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET).
