Turkmen President Receives New UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan
The Turkmen Leader congratulated the diplomat on starting work in Turkmenistan and conveyed best wishes to the UN leadership.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Tuesday received the newly appointed United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko. During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on a wide range of issues of the main directions and prospects for further building up an effective dialogue, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

Presenting his credentials to the Head of State, Dmitry Shlapachenko expressed gratitude for the warm welcome in the country and conveyed words of greetings from UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, according to the report.

In turn, the Turkmen Leader congratulated the diplomat on starting work in Turkmenistan and conveyed best wishes to the UN leadership.

During the meeting, the officials discussed a wide range of issues related to the current state, main directions and prospects for further building up an effective dialogue built on the principles of trust and mutual respect. In this regard, mutual interest was confirmed in new joint projects for the successful implementation of programs for the country's socio-economic development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Expressing deep gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for the support, the new UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan assured that, for his part, he would make every effort to further deepen the mutually beneficial partnership.

Shlapachenko has more than 25 years of experience in diplomacy, international cooperation, political and socioeconomic affairs, development coordination, peacebuilding, and strategic planning. At the United Nations, he was most recently Team Leader for the Horn of Africa and the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS).
