An online roundtable to discuss the concept of a draft Law of Turkmenistan on the agricultural consulting services was held in the country, the official media of Turkmenistan reported on Friday.
The roundtable discussion was organized within the framework of the project "Supporting climate resilient livelihoods in agricultural communities in drought-prone areas of Turkmenistan", jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and Global Environment Facility (GEF), according to the report.
The online meeting gathered representatives of relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the country's private sector.
The participants got acquainted with the draft concept of the Law of Turkmenistan on the system of agricultural consulting in Turkmenistan, considered recommendations for further activities of agro-information centers, state bodies and institutions participating in the agricultural consulting system.
The development of this draft law is aimed at creating an institutional environment for sustainable development of the agro-industrial sector of the country through the creation of a strong legal framework, including the introduction of measures to adapt to climate change through institutional changes.
A joint project between UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan " Supporting climate resilient livelihoods in agricultural communities in drought-prone areas of Turkmenistan" was launched in 2016 and aims to support implementation of adaptation measures for sustainable development of agricultural communities living in Lebap and Dashoguz velayats of Turkmenistan.
