The meeting was organized by the Austrian side.

Representatives of foreign policy departments and state entities responsible for migration issues of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Austria held an online meeting on Afghan issues on Monday. The officials discussed the current situation in Afghanistan, in particular the course of political events in the country and their impact on regional stability and security.

The meeting was organized by the Austrian side, represented by Minister of European and International Affairs Alexander Schallenberg and Interior Minister Karl Nehammer, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

The meeting participants considered the situation with refugees and migrants, including an overview of acceptable mechanisms for cooperation on a regional and international scale, and exchanged views on expanding humanitarian assistance to the Afghan population.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev reflected the position of Turkmenistan, which stands for an early settlement of the situation in Afghanistan with the participation of all responsible forces of this country, as well as for a more active participation of the world community in this regard.

Turkmenistan maintains an active and constructive dialogue with authorized representatives of the neighboring country, confirms the stability of the situation in the border areas, and is working to maintain the proper functioning of cargo movements, as well as the work of border points between the two countries on the basis of mutual agreement, according to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry’s statement.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan is a supporter of the peaceful settlement of all existing issues exclusively by political and diplomatic methods and means, which has been proven in practice since the moment of gaining its independence and the status of neutrality.

As a permanent member of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Program, Turkmenistan has extensive experience in resolving complex humanitarian situations and calls on international partners to seek and use mutually acceptable ways to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, according to the statement.

The parties agreed to continue an active dialogue aimed at taking concrete steps to facilitate the socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan.
