Turkmenistan is ready to work closely with the new Afghan government and provide assistance to normalize the situation in the country, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with First Deputy Director General of the TASS news agency Mikhail Gusman on Friday.

“We in Turkmenistan are closely following the developments of the situation and the latest events in Afghanistan,” President Berdimuhamedov said, expressing hope that the transit of power in Afghanistan “will be carried out peacefully on the basis of a broad national dialogue.”

The Head of State emphasized the readiness of Turkmenistan “to work closely with the new government of Afghanistan to further strengthen the traditionally fraternal Turkmen-Afghan relations, to provide the necessary assistance in order to quickly normalize the situation in this country and ensure its sustainable socio-economic revival."

The Turkmen Leader also said Ashgabat, based on its “positive neutral status”, will pursue an “exclusively peaceful foreign policy” without interfering in the internal affairs of other states.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in his video address to the 76th United Nations General Assembly last week said the new realities in Afghanistan require an approach free of ideological preferences, old grudges, phobias and stereotypes. He added that Ashgabat is deeply interested in political stability and security of Afghanistan, the well-being and unity of the Afghan people.
