Top Diplomats of Turkmenistan, Iran Discuss Bilateral Ties, Regional Issues
The Turkmen Foreign Minister described the recent meeting between the Presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan in Tajikistan as a turning point in their bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian in a phone talk on Sunday have discussed the state of relations between the two countries, the developments in Afghanistan and the upcoming summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

The Turkmen Foreign Minister described the recent meeting between the Presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan in Tajikistan as a turning point in their bilateral relations and stressed the need to follow up and implement the agreements reached between the two leaders.

Amirabdollahian once again congratulated Meredov on the anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence. He also referred to the policy of Iran’s 13th government toward neighboring countries and underlined the importance of relations with Turkmenistan and the need to develop comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

In the phone call, the sides emphasized the direct responsibility of the foreign ministries of Iran and Turkmenistan in pursuing the Presidents’ agreements. They also agreed to expedite the holding of a joint commission in Tehran in the near future and review cooperation in the fields of transportation and trade.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi have held talks on the sidelines of the summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in mid-September in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe. The Heads of State have discussed bilateral ties, including energy and transports ties. The have also agreed to resolve the natural gas issue between the countries.
