The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov held talks with the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov on Friday in Bishkek. The agenda of the talks included the transit of electricity and natural gas from Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting between the senior government officials took place within the framework of the first European Union – Central Asia Economic Forum, the press service of the government of Kyrgyzstan said in its press release.
The officials also considered the supply of electricity directly from Uzbekistan, and the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the Irkeshtam-Daroot-Korgon-Kyzyl-Kiya highway, a trade and logistics center in the city Kyzyl-Kiya and Kambar-Ata hydroelectric power plant.
Issues of cooperation in the fields of agriculture and industry were also considered during the talks.
In early August, the Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government Charymyrat Purchekov and the Minister of Energy and Industry of Kyrgyzstan Doskul Bekmurzayev signed the contract for the supply of 501.9 million kWh of electricity from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan.
Turkmenistan has already supplied over 60% of the planned electricity – 305.8 million kWh – to Kyrgyzstan.
