Astrakhan’s Governor Proposes Launch of Ashgabat-Astrakhan Direct Flights
During the talks, the officials agreed on opening a logistics center of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan’s Olya port.

The Governor of Russia’s Astrakhan region Igor Babushkin proposed to government of Turkmenistan to study the possibility of launching Astrakhan-Ashgabat direct flights by Turkmen Airlines after the lifting of COVID-19 related restrictions.

The proposal was voiced during the governor’s Thursday meeting in Ashgabat with Rashid Meredov, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Turkmenistan, Co-Chairman of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

The press service of the Astrakhan governor's administration in its statement on the meeting highlighted the importance of launching regular flights between Astrakhan and Ashgabat, adding that it will “contribute to the development of business and humanitarian contacts”.

During the talks, the officials agreed on opening a logistics center of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan’s Olya port.

Babushkin said the logistics center will contribute to the increase of trade between Turkmenistan and the Astrakhan region.

Supporting the decision to create the logistics center, Rashid Meredov said he will appoint a project coordinator from the Turkmen side in the coming days and proposed to hold the first joint detailed discussion on the topic via video link next week.

During his visit to Ashgabat, Astrakhan’s Governor also held talks with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
