Scientific-Production Center of the Turkmen Agricultural Institute in the city of Dashoguz in northern Turkmenistan offered for industrial use the newly developed variety of tomato – Aýnur.
The new tomato variety was obtained through intercrossing of varieties Vostok 36x and Balkan. Its field tests were carried out from 2016 to 2018, after which the sample was sent for state examination. The control plantings formed 43.4 tons of yield from each hectare, the country’s official media reported on Thursday.
The authors-developers found out that the fruits of this variety are suitable for processing – canning and making tomato paste. It takes 116 days from the moment of mass ripening to the first harvest, and the fruit-bearing part of the plant is up to 45 centimeters in height and 40 centimeters in width.
The new variety of tomato has an average dryness and disease resistance. It is round, smooth, and deep red in color. The average weight of the tomato is up to 110 grams.
The member-businesses of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) operate greenhouses with a total area of 530.54 hectares. Their 500 hectares will grow tomatoes for the 2021-2022 harvest season with the expectation of collecting 85 thousand tons of the crop. Most of the tomatoes are expected to be exported.
