President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Thursday in Ashgabat received the newly appointed Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Turkmenistan Mohammad Fayyazi. He presented his credentials to the Turkmen Head of State.
Congratulating the new UNICEF Representative on his appointment to the post, the Turkmen Leader stressed that relations with the United Nations and its main specialized agencies, including UNICEF, are one of the main priorities of the foreign policy of Neutral Turkmenistan, the official Turkmen media reports.
Mohammad Fayyazi confirmed the interest of the Fund in the further development of traditionally fruitful relations with Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov and Mohammad Fayyazi exchanged views on the priority areas of long-term bilateral cooperation and the prospects for its further expansion to address common goals and objectives. The sides emphasized the intensification of cooperation following the election of Turkmenistan as a member of the UNICEF Executive Board for 2018-2022.
The UNICEF representative highlighted with satisfaction that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the protection of maternal and child health at the state level.
Mohammad Fayyazi expressed his gratitude to the Turkmen Leader for the constant attention to cooperation with the UNICEF, and said it is a great honor for him to work in Turkmenistan, assuring that, for his part, he would in every way contribute to the successful continuation of bilateral partnership, which has great potential and is based on many years of experience of joint work.
In March last year Turkmenistan adopted the National Programme on Healthy Nutrition of the Population for 2020-2025, developed with technical support of UNICEF and World Health Organization (WHO).
