Serdar Berdimuhamedov also delivered a written message from the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to President Raisi, the Iranian IRNA news agency reports.

"Turkmenistan seeks to open a new historical page in relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and numerous proposals have been prepared to expand comprehensive cooperation, especially to increase and facilitate trade and transit at border terminals," Serdar Berdimuhamedow said during the meeting.

President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi stated that Tehran-Ashgabat relations are on the path to development. He stated that obstacles on the development of cooperation between the two countries in the transport and energy sectors have been removed and conditions have been created for further expansion of relations between the two countries.

The implementation of the agreement between Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan on a natural gas swap for up to two billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas a year has started on January 1, 2022.
