Discussions Underway to Increase Turkmen Gas Swap Supplies to Azerbaijan
Under the trilateral agreement, up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas will be annually transported from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan through Iran.

There are proposals to increase Turkmen gas swap supplies to Azerbaijan via Iran and discussions to this end are constantly being conducted by the relevant structures, the Azerbaijani Report news agency reports citing Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Iran Ali Alizada as saying in an interview with the Iranian news agency IRIB.

The Ambassador added that there are new initiatives related to the strengthening of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the gas sector, and assessments are being carried out.

Ali Alizada said the natural gas swap project is the first large and effective project that was prepared and signed with the new government of Iran in a short time, adding that “this project will not only benefit all three sides, but will also contribute to trilateral and regional cooperation”.

The tripartite gas swap agreement was signed on November 28 in Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat on the sidelines of the 15th Summit of Economic Cooperation Organization.

Under the agreement, up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas will be annually transported from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan through Iran.

The implementation of the agreement has started on January 1, 2022.
