The heads of observer missions from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in a Sunday briefing on the results of monitoring the March 12 presidential elections stated with satisfaction that the polls were successful, organized, on a broad alternative basis, in conditions of openness and transparency, with high activity of the electorate.
The briefs were attended by representatives of national and foreign media, as well as members of the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan.
The participants said the assessment of the missions is objective and corresponds to the real situation both in preparation for the elections and in their conduct. According to the speakers, the conclusions are based on the analysis of the national electoral legislation, direct observations and factual material collected during the stay of the mission members in the country.
The international representatives also highlighted the successful activities of the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan, election commissions of all levels, and competent legal and informational support of the entire election process. As stated, the presidential elections fully comply with the provisions of the Basic Law of Turkmenistan, the Electoral Code, and generally accepted norms of international law.
Early presidential elections in Turkmenistan took place on March 12. The inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of Turkmenistan will be held at the Oguzhan Palace Complex in capital Ashgabat on March 19.
