The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Serdar Berdimuhamedov won the March 12 early presidential elections in Turkmenistan, receiving 72.97% of the votes.

The biography of the President-elect of Turkmenistan:

Serdar Gurbanguliyevich Berdimuhamedov was born on September 22, 1981 in Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat. Nationality – Turkmen.

In 1987-1997, he studied at secondary school No. 43 in Ashgabat.

In 1997-2001, he studied at the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov and received the degree of an engineer-technologist.

In July-November 2001, he worked at Department of Foreign Economic Relations of the State Association of the Food Industry of Turkmenistan at the post of the Chief Specialist.

In 2001-2003, he served in the military.

In 2003-2008, he was the Chief Specialist of the main department for the fruit and vegetable industry, the Chief Specialist of the main department for non-alcoholic beer and wine industry of the State Association of Food Industry of Turkmenistan.

In 2008-2011, he studied at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and graduated with a degree in International Relations. In the same years, he worked as an adviser to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Russian Federation (Moscow).

In 2011-2013, he studied at the Geneva Center for Security Policy, graduating with a degree in European and International Security. In the same years, he worked as an adviser to the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan at the Geneva office of the United Nations (Geneva, Switzerland).

In August-December 2013, he headed the European Countries Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

In 2013-2016, he held the post of Deputy Director of the State Agency for the Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources under the President of Turkmenistan.

In 2016-2017, he headed the International Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

In 2016, Serdar Berdimuhamedov was elected Deputy of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan.

In 2017-2018, he chaired the Committee on Legislation and its Norms of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

In 2018-2019, he held the post of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

In January-June 2019, he was Deputy of Governor of Ahal province.

In 2019-2020, he worked as the Governor of Ahal province.

In 2020-2021, he headed the Ministry of Industry and Construction Production of Turkmenistan.

In February - July 2021, he held the posts of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Chairman of the Supreme Control Chamber of Turkmenistan, and was a member of the State Security Council of Turkmenistan.

Since July 2021, he has been working as Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan in charge of economic and financial issues.

On February 14, the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan nominated Serdar Berdimuhamedov as a candidate for President of Turkmenistan.

On March 15, the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan announced the victory of Serdar Berdimuhamedov in presidential elections and recognized him as the President-elect of Turkmenistan

He heads the Turkmen Alabai Association (since May 2020) and the Ahal-Teke Horse Breeding Association (since April 2021).

He speaks three languages - Turkmen, Russian and English.

He is married and a father to four children.
