Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan Consider Matters Related to Joint Development Fund’s Launch

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbayev held a meeting with Deputy Chairman of Turkmen Government, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in Islamabad on Tuesday. During the talks, they touched upon the matters related to the launch of Kyrgyz-Turkmen Development Fund.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 48th session of Council of Foreign Ministers of Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

The Kyrgyz Foreign Minister congratulated the Turkmen side on the successful holding of early presidential elections in Turkmenistan and the inauguration of Serdar Berdimuhamedov as President on March 19 this year. He wished the people of Turkmenistan well-being and prosperity. In turn, Minister Meredov thanked the Kyrgyz side for congratulations and sending international observers from Kyrgyzstan to the elections.

Positively assessing the current level of bilateral ties, the heads of the foreign ministries of the two countries discussed topical issues of Kyrgyz-Turkmen cooperation in the trade-economic and investment spheres, cooperation on the supply of energy, agriculture, light industry, tourism and transport-transit issues. They also touched upon the organization and holding of upcoming political events, mutual visits at various levels.

Emphasizing the need to create favorable conditions for the further development of trade-economic cooperation, the Kyrgyz side proposed to expedite consideration of matter of creating the Kyrgyz-Turkmen Development Fund in order to launch the fund this year.

In addition, the ministers exchanged views on the forthcoming Fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, and discussed issues of international and regional security.

The agreement on creation of the Kyrgyz-Turkmen Development Fund was reached during the meeting of former Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov in Ashgabat in June last year.
