The Heads of parliamentary delegations on Tuesday at the solemn meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) in the Kazakh city of Almaty, dedicated to the anniversary of the IPA CIS, considered the 30th anniversary of the organization and highly appreciated its activities over the past years.
The head of the Turkmen delegation, Chairperson of the Mejlis chamber of the bicameral parliament of Turkmenistan Milli Gengesh Gulshat Mammedova said the country's leadership considers the participation of the national delegation in the solemn meeting as an opportunity to strengthen the international authority of Turkmenistan and establish effective contacts between representatives of the parliaments of different countries, the IPA CIS said in its press release.
The Head of the delegation also conveyed congratulations to the members of the Assembly from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Chairman of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Valentina Matvienko said in her speech “the Assembly has become one of the supporting structures of the Commonwealth. Today it is not just a platform for a dialogue between parliamentarians, but a real working institution in the field of model lawmaking, election monitoring and much more”.
Valentina Matvienko expressed confidence that "the Assembly will continue to develop, strengthen its authority in the international parliamentary community, and, of course, work effectively for the prosperity of the Commonwealth countries".
The members of the Council also discussed the proposal to declare 2025 in the Commonwealth of Independent States the Year of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War – the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight against Nazism, and were briefed about the results of the monitoring of election campaigns that took place in the Commonwealth countries over the past six months and considered a number of other issues.
The meeting ended with a solemn ceremony, in which the heads of parliamentary delegations were awarded medals in honor of the 30th anniversary of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
