Turkmenistan can supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Pakistan to aid the country in meeting its energy needs, the Pakistan-based newspaper The Express Tribune reported, citing the Turkmen Ambassador to Pakistan Atajan Movlamov as saying on Tuesday.

He made the remarks during a meeting with the President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Muhammad Shakeel Munir at the Embassy of Turkmenistan. Former Senior Vice President of ICCI Muhammad Naveed Malik accompanied him on the occasion.

Turkmenistan is eager to strengthen trade ties with Pakistan and both countries have excellent potential to widen trade in many items, according to the Turkmen envoy.

Movlamov said the Turkmen Embassy is ready to organize an online business conference between the ICCI and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan so that business circles of the countries could interact and explore potential areas of mutual cooperation.

The Ambassador of Turkmenistan further stated that his embassy can deliver a presentation to the ICCI members about export products of Turkmenistan and potential fields of trade cooperation between the two countries.

He exchanged ideas with the ICCI President on a range of topics to improve bilateral trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.

The ICCI President Muhammad Shakeel Munir appreciated the offers of the Turkmen Ambassador, including the online conference between ICCI and Turkmen CCI and presentation to be delivered to ICCI members.

“These measures will help us in exploring new opportunities of trade promotion between Pakistan and Turkmenistan,” Muhammad Shakeel Munir said.

Stating that Central Asia is an attractive market for Pakistan, he said close cooperation with Turkmenistan would help Pakistan in gaining better access to Central Asian markets.

The ICCI President also discussed various proposals with the Turkmen envoy to promote business ties between the private sectors of both countries.

Last month in Islamabad, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi, where they discussed bilateral and regional ties.
