Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have discussed increasing the volume of cargo transported by rail in their respective territories.
The discussion took place in Tashkent during a meeting between the management of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and Uzbekistan Temir Yullari (Uzbekistan Railways) JSC, the AzerNews newspaper reported on Monday.
Discussing the development of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijani and Uzbek railroads, the sides noted the effective measures taken to develop international multimodal route Asia-Pacific region-China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Europe.
The sides considered issues of technological cooperation between the railway infrastructures of the two countries. They stated their willingness to provide technical assistance in the repair of railway vehicles as well as the development of railway infrastructure.
Besides, the participants stressed the importance of continuing cooperation with participants of international and multimodal transport corridors.
A working group headed by the heads of railway departments of the two countries was created to increase freight traffic and address bilateral issues. Besides, the parties agreed to hold the next meeting of the working group in late April in Baku.
The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in 2021 amounted to $111.9.
