Turkmenistan allowed transit of foreign freight trucks with drivers from Uzbekistan to Iran and vice versa starting June 1, setting a number of requirements for the transit of goods through the territory of this state.
The route for the movement of vehicles passes through the Farap-Alat crossing at the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan border and the Sarakhs-Sarakhs crossing at the Turkmenistan-Iran border.
The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan announced on Saturday that the following conditions and requirements must be met for cargo transit through the territory of Turkmenistan:
- For transit cargo transportation through Turkmenistan, drivers must present the results of COVID-19 PCR test at the border (at least 72 hours before crossing the border) or a certificate of vaccination against coronavirus (not later than 42 days from the date of the last vaccination), and pass a rapid test for COVID-19 at the checkpoint;
- Drivers of foreign vehicles must submit all documents required for the transit traffic process for special sanitary treatment;
- Trucks must move through Turkmenistan in a convoy, which will be formed at a distance of 1 km from the borders of Uzbekistan and Iran. It begins to be formed at 8:00 a.m;
- The convoy will be escorted by Turkmenistan's traffic police, and drivers are not allowed to stop and leave vehicles during the convoy;
- There will be special parking lots for rest, refueling and maintenance of vehicles during the convoy's movement through Turkmenistan;
- In the event of malfunction or other problems during movement, the vehicle is taken out of the convoy. Law enforcement authorities together with the Turkmenawtoulaglary (Turkmen Road Transport) Agency will provide practical assistance to the driver in solving the issue.
The decision of Turkmenistan to allow the transit of freight trucks from Uzbekistan to Iran and vice versa was announced last month.
