Top Diplomats of Turkmenistan, Iran Discuss Upcoming Caspian Summit

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian in a telephone conversation on Monday discussed the upcoming summit of the Heads of State of the Caspian Sea Countries in Turkmenistan.

The top diplomats also considered implementation of bilateral agreements as well as some regional issues, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

Amirabdollahian said the recent meeting between the Presidents of the two countries in Tehran has a significant impact on the expansion of friendly relations between the two neighbors. Amirabdollahian declared Iran’s support for Ashgabat’s hosting of the summit of the Heads of State of the Caspian Sea countries.

For his part, the Turkmen Foreign Minister highly appreciated the warm hospitality of Iran during the Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s recent visit to Tehran. He described the visit as the beginning of a new chapter in ties between Iran and Turkmenistan.

Meredow said Turkmen government entities and private sector are ready for a meeting with their Iranian counterparts to implement the agreements reached during the meeting between the Presidents of the two countries.

On behalf of the Turkmen President, Rashid Meredov once again invited Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to the summit of the Heads of State of the Caspian Sea countries.

The two-day visit of Turkmen President to Iran was held last week. During the visit, nine memoranda of understanding and a joint statement was signed between the countries.
