The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on Tuesday hosted a roundtable with participation of the World Trade Organization delegation led by the WTO Deputy Director-General Zhang Xiangchen and members of the Governmental Commission on Issues Related to Turkmenistan's Accession to the WTO.

The event was also attended by heads and representatives of diplomatic missions of foreign states and representatives of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

Speaking at the roundtable, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev emphasized that the ultimate goal of the country is to become a full member of the WTO, adding that to this end, Turkmenistan will continue a consistent line of rapprochement with the organization.

In the course of the round table it was noted that Turkmenistan’s status of acceding country to the WTO would continue comprehensive work in this area, strengthen Turkmenistan's position in foreign trade, increasing its international standing as a reliable and responsible partner, attracting foreign investment and, in general, expanding constructive cooperation with the WTO.

Turkmenistan’s official application to join the WTO was formally received on November 24, 2021. In February 2022, Turkmenistan was granted the status of an acceding country (active observer) to the WTO.
