Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan to Start Customs Data Exchange From 2023
The customs officials agreed on holding of regular working meetings to promptly address issues arising at the border.

The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan during a video conference on Friday agreed to start the process of customs data exchange between the two agencies from January 2023.

The meeting, held at the initiative of the Uzbek side, reviewed the implementation of the Protocol on the exchange of customs data between the two agencies, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan said in its press release.

The main topic discussed at the meeting was the issue of increasing the capacity of checkpoints Farap-Alat at the Turkmen-Uzbek border. The sides exchanged information on operation of the checkpoints and prospects of their development. The customs officials agreed on holding of regular working meetings to promptly address issues arising at the border.

The meeting participants also exchanged views on the implementation of digital TIR Carnets and facilitation of transit procedures.

In early August, Uzbekistan proposed to create a joint transport company for the transportation of trucks (TIR) with Turkmenistan.
