Turkmenistan Imports Nearly 218 Thousand Tons of Wheat From Kazakhstan
Most of the Kazakh grain exports were sent to CIS countries – nearly 2.3 million tons.

Turkmenistan in January-July this year imported 217.9 thousand tons of wheat and meslin (a mixture of wheat and rye) worth 78.7 million from Kazakhstan, the Kazakh research agency Energyprom.kz reported on Tuesday.

During the period, Kazakhstan exported a total of 3.3 million tons of wheat and meslin worth $1 billion. The growth of exports in physical terms amounted to 3.2%, in monetary terms - 40.4%.

Most of these Kazakh grain products were sent to CIS countries – nearly 2.3 million tons, a 3% increase compared to the same period last year. The largest volumes were exported to Uzbekistan (1.5 million tons worth $419.4 million), Tajikistan (416 thousand tons worth $137.4 million) and Turkmenistan.

In January-July this year, other non-CIS countries received 1 million tons of Kazakh wheat, a 3.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Most of these volume was exported to Iran – 458.9 thousand tons, an increase of 34.2% compared to the same period last year. Other major importers of Kazakh wheat during the period are Afghanistan (267.3 thousand tons) and Italy (151.2 thousand tons).

By the end of July 2022, export prices of Kazakh wheat and meslin rose by 10.1% for the month, by 14.5% since the beginning of the year and by 32.1% compared to the same period last year, according to the agency.

In the 2020-2021 season, Kazakhstan exported an estimated 8.1 million tons of wheat.
