The ninth meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), chaired by Uzbekistan, was held in Samarkand on Thursday.
The meeting gathered the heads of foreign ministries of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Hungary and the deputy foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, as well as the OTS Secretary General.
Head of the Turkmen delegation, Deputy Foreign Minister Berdiniyaz Myatiev said in his speech that "Turkmenistan consistently develops its international cooperation on bilateral and multilateral basis. Our country cooperates with all countries of the world, including member countries of the Organization of Turkic States, based on the principles of mutual respect and understanding, as well as equal rights.”
The meeting participants noted the importance of interaction in the trade-economic sphere. In this context, opportunities for developing both bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Turkic countries in the fuel-energy, transport-communication and industrial sectors were emphasized during the talks.
The participants exchanged views on topical issues on the regional and international agenda and cooperation within the Organization, and reviewed draft documents to be signed during the OTS summit on Friday in Samarkand.
At the upcoming OTS summit, Turkmenistan is expected to become a full member of the organization.
