Russian Railways (RZD) OJSC and its partners from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran decided to set unified reduced rates for next year for the transportation of containers along the eastern branch of the North-South international transport corridor, RZD announced on Monday.
The Russian Railways has already provided a 20% discount, the Russian company added.
Special tariff rates will be in effect on the railroads of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran:
- 0.15$/TEU-km (with gross weight of container up to 24 tons);
- 0.18$/TEU-km (with gross weight of container more than 24 tons);
The eastern branch of North-South international transport corridor runs along the railroads of Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran – and then along the sea route to the countries of the Persian Gulf and South Asia.
According to preliminary estimates, by 2025 the total volume of export shipments from Russia on the eastern branch of the North-South corridor may reach more than 5 million tons a year.
In July, the Russian Railways organized the transportation of the first container train on the eastern branch of the North-South corridor to India.
