Russian Cargo Transit Through Turkmenistan Increases Fourfold
The Turkmen Foreign Minister stated that serious prospects are opening up in transport and logistics, where cooperation in railway transport and shipbuilding is a special priority.

The preliminary results of the last year show the fourfold increase in the transit of Russian cargo through Turkmenistan to other countries of the region, the official Turkmen media reported, with reference to a statement by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at the Turkmen-Russian business forum held in Ashgabat on Thursday.

"Such a representative composition of the Russian delegation, its high level, wide representation in different regions of the country is the evidence of great interest in cooperation with Turkmenistan and opening up new opportunities. The business forum will give a new impetus to the Turkmen-Russian relations, and in turn will promote the development of the economic component of interstate cooperation," Rashid Meredov added.

Rashid Meredov added that the Silovyie Mashiny Joint Stock Company is currently working on a project to modernize the Mary power plant and thermal power plant in the city of Turkmenbashi.

The Foreign Minister also stated that serious prospects are opening up in transport and logistics, where cooperation in railway transport and shipbuilding is a special priority.

"Currently, a number of other Russian regions, in particular, the Chelyabinsk, Orel and Sverdlovsk regions are interested in working with Turkmenistan, and we welcome it," said the Foreign Minister, confirming the willingness of Ashgabat to discuss such plans with the leadership and business circles of the Russian regions.

According to the report, the sphere of high technology, development of which the Russian government pays special attention, including through international cooperation, was singled out as a promising area for bilateral cooperation. Turkmenistan intends to participate in this process, in particular in the creation of technology parks, IT and Hi-Tech centers.
