The high-level gathering brought together ministers and officials from ECO member states, including Iran, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan, as well as representatives from key international organizations such as the International Road Transport Union (IRU).
The meeting focused on developing a more efficient and sustainable transport system across the ECO region. Discussions included improving logistics links between East and West, expanding multimodal transport routes, streamlining border procedures, and adopting digital technologies in the transportation sector.
Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to regional transport cooperation and emphasized its strategic importance as a transit hub between Europe and Asia. Chakiyev highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize the country’s transport infrastructure and boost its role in international logistics.
On the sidelines of the event, the Turkmen delegation held bilateral talks with ministers from Uzbekistan and Pakistan, and with the Secretary General of the IRU. Topics included increasing freight volumes, upgrading border checkpoints, training logistics professionals, and developing new transit corridors.
Chakiyev also met with the ECO Secretary General to discuss preparations for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC), which will take place August 3–5 in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan. A special ECO session is expected to be held as part of the forum.
Turkmenistan’s participation underscored its growing role in shaping the region’s transport connectivity and advancing multilateral cooperation within ECO.
