A ceremony was held in Kyiv near the monument to renowned Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Pyragy, marking the Day of Workers of Culture and Arts and honoring his poetic legacy, according to Turkmenistan’s Embassy in Ukraine.

The event brought together cultural figures, educators, local officials, diplomats, business representatives, Turkmen students, and the diaspora. Participants paid tribute to Magtymguly’s contributions, highlighting his poetry as an encyclopedic reflection of Turkmen history, traditions, and social life.

Ambassador Toyly Atayev emphasized the connection between Magtymguly’s ideals and Turkmenistan’s ongoing reforms under President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, noting the country’s peaceful foreign policy and 30 years of neutrality.

The ambassador also spoke about cultural cooperation with Ukraine, including celebrations of Magtymguly’s 300th anniversary and joint UNESCO events. Ongoing translation projects include the Turkmen epic “Gorogly” into Ukrainian.

Award recipients of the Magtymguly Pyragy state medal praised the poet’s message of peace, unity, and justice. Turkmen students and diaspora members recited his poetry in both Turkmen and Ukrainian.

The event featured exhibitions of poetry collections, books by Turkmen leaders translated into Ukrainian, a photo exhibit, and displays of traditional Turkmen clothing. Traditional melodies performed on the dutar and national cuisine were also part of the celebration.
