Turkmenistan Proposes Energy Policy Coordination Mechanism at ECO Summit

A Turkmen delegation led by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov participated in the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), held on July 4 in the city of Khankendi, Azerbaijan. The Turkmen side proposed the creation of a mechanism for coordinating the energy policy of ECO member states, aimed at strengthening the region’s energy security and ensuring stable energy supplies, according to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his speech, the Turkmen foreign minister emphasized the importance of adopting a strategic document outlining economic cooperation priorities within ECO through 2035. Key areas highlighted included the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, diversification of export routes, promotion of green energy, removal of trade barriers, digitalization, and attracting investment.

Turkmenistan expressed its readiness to actively contribute to the strengthening of multilateral cooperation, including by fostering business contacts through chambers of commerce and expanding cultural and humanitarian exchanges as a foundation for sustainable integration.

At the conclusion of the summit, participants acknowledged its significance as a platform for harmonizing approaches and fostering closer ties among regional countries based on mutual benefit.

Rashid Meredov also took part in an official luncheon held on July 4 in the city of Shusha, hosted by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in honor of the heads of state, government leaders, and heads of delegations participating in the 17th ECO Summit.
