President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov attended the opening of the archaeological exhibition Ancient Civilizations of Turkmenistan during his visit to Italy.
Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said the large-scale event, running from October 2025 to April 2026, serves as a bridge connecting Central Asia’s cultural heritage with the roots of European civilization.
President Berdimuhamedov highlighted the exhibition’s symbolic significance, marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality. He noted that the policy of neutrality fosters friendly relations between peoples and promotes cultural cooperation.
Visitors will see unique artifacts reflecting Turkmenistan’s rich history, including gold necklaces with semi-precious stones from Gonur-depe, the capital of the Bronze Age civilization of Margiana, and the famous ivory rhytons discovered in Nisa, the capital of the Parthian Empire.
The exhibition was made possible by decades of cooperation between Turkmen and Italian archaeologists, who have conducted joint excavations in Turkmenistan for more than 30 years.
