The meeting of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow and the President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran on Wednesday resulted in the signing of nine memoranda of understanding and a joint statement.

The signed documents include MoUs on strengthening trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation between the provinces of Turkmenistan and Iran, on establishing joint investment committee, on the further development of bilateral transport and transit cooperation.

The memoranda were signed by ministers, governors and relevant officials of the two countries in the presence of the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Iran, according to the Mehr news agency.

Speaking in a joint press conference with his Turkmen counterpart after the ceremony of signing MoUs, President Raisi said, "There is no doubt that the visit of the President of Turkmenistan and high delegation to Iran could be a turning point in the relations between the two countries. Iran has had very good relations with Turkmenistan for the past three decades."

"There should be more cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade, water, electricity and gas," Ebrahim Raisi noted.

Stating that Iran and Turkmenistan are serious to further develop relations, the Iranian President said Iran is determined to sign a 20-year cooperation document with Turkmenistan.

Serdar Berdimuhamedow, for his part, said negotiations between the high-level delegations of Turkmenistan and Iran were successful. He added that his talks with the Iranian President focused on the expansion of trade-economic cooperation.

The President of Turkmenistan also thanked Raisi and the Iranian authorities for supporting Turkmenistan's initiatives in the international community.
