Turkmenistan Holds Elections to Parliament and People’s Council
According to the rules of the Election Code, the results of the voting will be announced soonest time possible.

Elections of Mejlis (Parliament) deputies, province, district and city people's councils and members of councils were held on Sunday in polling stations across Turkmenistan, the official Turkmen media reports.

The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also participated in the elections.

As reported in the news, the election commission registered 515 candidates for the membership of the Provincial People's Councils, 2,001 candidates for the membership of the District and City People's Councils, 12 thousand 98 candidates for the membership of the Councils, and 258 candidates for the Deputies of the Mejlis by political parties and citizen groups.

Also, 312 polling stations were set in Ashgabat city, 365 in Ahal province, 272 in Balkan province, 536 in Dashoguz province, 567 in Lebap province, 550 in Mary province.

Nearly 3.5 million voters were registered to vote in the elections of parliament deputies, f regional, district and city people's councils, and more than 2.56 million voters - for the membership of the Councils.

International and national observers visited all polling stations to monitor the election process. The international observers were from the UN, CIS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Organization of Turkic States, and experts from the Bureau of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

According to the data of the Central Committee for conducting Elections and Elections in Turkmenistan, 91.12 percent of voters participated in the parliamentary elections, 91.10 percent in the elections of members of provincial, regional and city councils, and 91.20 percent in the elections of Council members.

According to the rules of the Election Code, the results of the voting will be announced at soonest time possible.
