The Chairman of the "Türkmendeňizderýaýollary" (Turkmen Maritime and River Roads) Agency on Tuesday presented the Turkmenbashi International Seaport at the 86th session of the Committee on Inland Transport of the Economic Commission for Europe, discussing the transition to the decarbonization of inland transport by 2050. The port was designed and constructed based on international criteria for a "Green Port."
Officials from relevant departments of the United States, the Netherlands, Nigeria, and Saudi Arabia, as well as representatives of international organizations such as UNFCCC, IRF, and UNCTAD, participated in the event, Demiryollary OJSC reported on Wednesday.
As reported, Turkmenbashi International Seaport has installed bio-purification plants to preserve the ecology of the Caspian Sea, utilizing technologies powered by electricity that are environmentally friendly. The port follows the principle of minimizing the impact of waste and emissions on the environment.
During the event, speakers discussed practices and ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in inland transport, also sharing that 72% of global greenhouse gas emissions are attributed to the transport sector.
The event will last for three days until February 23. The Chairman of the Agency will also participate in parallel events focusing on sustainable transport and digitization.
