Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan began exchanging advance electronic data on goods and vehicles transported between the two countries in August 2026, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan reported Tuesday.

The data exchange is carried out through information systems under an agreement and technical arrangements between the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Finance. The system allows customs authorities to receive information on goods and vehicles before they enter Turkmenistan’s customs territory and prepare in advance for the necessary customs procedures based on the data received.

The advance electronic exchange is expected to reduce the time needed by carriers and foreign trade participants to complete customs procedures, speed up the movement of goods across the customs border and reduce paperwork. The system will also help improve the predictability of international cargo shipments.

The electronic exchange is aimed at improving the quality and reliability of trade statistics between the two countries, as well as advancing the digitalization of customs administration and facilitating foreign trade. The system is expected to help speed up export, import and transit shipments and strengthen trade and transport ties between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
