Turkmenistan plans to implement a project for constructing a grain elevator near the Serhetabat-Turgundi border crossing point on the Turkmen-Afghan border. This was announced during a meeting between high-ranking officials from Turkmenistan and the Afghan delegation on Monday in Ashgabat, as part of the Turkmen-Afghan Business Forum and the exhibition featuring Afghan products.
The facility will have a storage capacity of 100,000 tons for temporary grain storage before being transported to Afghanistan, News Central Asia reports.
Turkmenistan also aims to build a 173-kilometer railway connecting Turgundi and Herat, along with a loading and unloading area featuring a covered warehouse complex at the dry port of Turgundi.
During the meeting, officials also highlighted an increase in electricity supplies from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan. In this context, they highlighted Turkmenistan's commitment to delivering over 1.83 billion kWh of electricity to Afghanistan this year.
The Turkmen-Afghan Business Forum and the Exhibition of Afghan Goods kicked off on March 4 at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan. A delegation led by Afghanistan's Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi, consisting of over 300 representatives from governmental structures, chambers of commerce, banks, and around 170 companies and enterprises attended the events in Ashgabat.
