Turkmenistan has made significant environmental progress, reducing total emissions by 10% compared to 2020, announced State Minister and Chairman of Türkmengaz State Concern Maksat Babayev during the Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan (OGT-2024) conference on Wednesday in Ashgabat.
According to official Turkmen media, one of the key initiatives has been the adoption of a phased methane reduction strategy, highlighting the country’s commitment to meeting international environmental standards and promoting sustainable development.
The strategy includes measures to reduce emissions in the energy and agricultural sectors, aimed at not only improving air quality but also increasing energy efficiency.
Turkmenistan is actively collaborating with international partners, exchanging expertise and technology for more effective emissions management. These efforts align with global climate initiatives and underscore the country’s contribution to improving environmental conditions in the region.
On December 1, 2023, at the COP-28 climate summit in Dubai, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced the country’s accession to the Global Methane Pledge.
